Fresh garlic is reaching record prices in South Africa. Awareness of its health and medicinal benefits and government’s levy on all imported garlic are the main contributing factors for the high prices and demand.
Garlic plants are very adaptable, easy to grow, and needs fairly little water. It will grow in just about any climate and region. It will grow in sandy or loam soil as long as it is well drained.
Garlic is reasonably resistant to insects and pests. Another great benefit is its long shelf life. This means you can keep it in storage and send it to the market when you think the prices are best.
Top grade garlic seed is scarce and expensive and shouldn’t be compromised if you expect a good harvest. The quality of a harvest depends on the quality seed you plant.
We pride ourselves in cultivating and supplying the best quality garlic seed in Southern Africa.
We stock Egyptian White, Pink and Giant garlic cultivars in bulk for farmers as well as special offers for vegetable gardeners.
The best time to plant garlic is from mid-February to the end of March. It takes 7 – 8 months to be ready for harvest.
